Last week we are asked our blog readers “What’s Wrong With This Window Installation?”
We found the picture in an article posted by GreenBuildingAdvisor.com and asked our readers to identify as many installation errors they could in the photo below.
According to GreenBuildingAdvisor.com, there are at least 3 installation errors.
#1 – Flashing is not installed properly. Flashing refers to thin continuous pieces of sheet metal or other impervious material installed to prevent the passage of water into a structure from an angle or joint. Flashing that has been installed improperly can result in severe water intrusion and mold.
#2 – The material used is not best suited for this application.
#3 – No end dam was installed to protect the inside of the window. An end dam terminates the flashing and provides more protection from water intrusion.
