Did you know bathrooms are the number home remodeling project? Though your bathroom may be a small space, it’s a room in your home you utilize the most. If your bathroom is the next project on your list, keep these tips in mind for remodeling:
- Toilet & Tub/Shower – Stick to white or cream for these items – more colored items tend to look very dated after only a few years.
- Think Lighting – Ironically, bath lighting is usually very dim and concentrated in one spot (i.e – a ceiling fixture). Consider having additional lighting around the bathroom mirror, where more lighting is preferred.
- Color Matters – To make a small bathroom look bigger, stick to a white-to-cream color spectrum.
- Extra Pieces – If space permits, try having a freestanding piece such as a decorative chair or cupboard for a more designed look. Of course, these “decorative” pieces can also serve a practical use as a place to store towels, toiletries, or other items!
- Utilize Wall Space – Hooks are an easy way to add “surface area” to a bathroom without actually adding real counter top space.
- Mirrors – Most people think of mirrors in bathrooms only for the purpose of checking makeup, styling hair, etc, but consider adding additional mirrors as design elements which expand the room visually and add light.
- Wainscoting – Wainscoting has two great functions – first, it creates a classic, antique look and secondly, it protects the lower section of the walls from inevitable splashes of water that occur in bathrooms from the tub, shower or sink.
