It’s National Home Improvement Month! Join New York Sash every week for more information on each of our important values in choosing a contractor!
Week 5: Reputation
You can tell a great deal about a contractor based on their reputation within their community and with their customers. Ask to see customer reviews or ask if they’ve received any accolades or have been recognized for any awards. You can also check the company’s BBB rating!
Membership
A reputable home improvement company will be a member of their local Chamber of Commerce and many more. Give your local chamber of commerce a call to make sure their membership is up to date.
Accolades
When choosing your next contractor, look around for any accolades or award nominations. If a contractor has been in business for some time and reputable within their community, they will have some kind of achievement on display. If no accolades have been displayed, the company might not be that reputable.
Customer References
Reputable contractors should have their customer reviews on display, from 5-6 years ago to more recent reviews. A reputable amount of clients would consist of 250 to 500 job reviews.
Community Involvement
A reputable home improvement company will have some involvement in their community, such as holding veteran drives, participating in rides, donating to charities and sponsoring or holding events. A reputable company runs a great business and with that profit gives back to its community.
