It’s National Home Improvement Month! Join New York Sash every week for more information on each of our important values in choosing a contractor!
Week 3: Professionalism
A solid home improvement company will not only produce great results, but will pay attention to detail, show you & treat you with respect, and will appear professional. At the end of the day the little things make a big difference!
Workers Conduct Agreement
Every contractor should sign a conduct agreement. This is a compliance agreement that prohibits the use of alcohol, drugs, foul language, misconduct, or any inappropriate behavior on a job site. Without this agreement, the contractor has no rules set in place & cannot guarantee you a smooth installation experience.
No Sales Pressure Agreement
Every contractor should sign a “No Pressure Sales Agreement,” to protect consumers from high pressure sales tactics. If contractors try to give you a price quote and urge you to buy as soon as possible, they most likely have no such agreement in mind. In any case of high pressure to buy, do not sign a contract! Professional companies strive to be 100% honest with their customers and will never have to push them into buying. This agreement should be upheld by not only the contractor, but every associate as well.
Contract Specifications
Professional contractors will provide contract specifications for all of their jobs. This contract will list job measurements, details on the type & amount of materials being used, an estimate on the time frame of job completion, and lastly a price quote. These contract specifications help the customer understand every part of the job and gives them peace of mind. Worst case scenario is that your contractor has no written specification or for anything & just provides a written receipt or invoice, the biggest tell to look else where.
Jobsite Cleanup
A professional contractor will make sure the job site is cleaner than when they found it. Your home & yard should be cleared of large debris & dangerous materials daily by the contractors installation team. A total job site cleanup should take place, leaving no nails or screws or any hazardous materials behind. This should be done with a specialized magnet for metal detection. Be sure to check that your contractor has a daily cleanup & after completion cleanup routine set in place.
