Energy efficiency is obviously a big consideration when replacing your old, outdated windows and we’re proud to say that our New York Sash Premier vinyl windows will drastically reduce your energy bills. But it’s important to also consider style when window shopping – since new windows can raise the value of your home, you want to make sure you’re choosing styles that fit the architectural character of both your home and your neighborhood (to get the most from your investment!).
Windows with multiple panes of glass are referred to as grids or dividers. For more traditional architectural styles like Colonial, double-hung windows with 6-over-6 grids will give the home a classic look associated with traditional and historical architecture. For Ranch style homes, casement windows (outward swing) with no grids enhance the home’s decorative style, while large sliding glass windows are a good choice for Contemporary style homes.
Also consider the proportions of the windows i.e. lining up the tops of windows presents an organized design for modern styles. If an existing windows appear too close together, consider replacing the set with a broad picture window or if one window in a set is smaller, consider enlarging the opening to match the proportions of the rest.
Combined architectural styles by combining window styles i.e. install a half circle window about a center window creating height and dimension.
