Federal Tax Credits for Consumer Energy Efficiency*:
On December 16, 2015, the long-awaited year-end tax deal negotiated between House and Senate Leadership was unveiled. Included in this deal is the 10% credit of up to $200 for ENERGYSTAR® qualified windows, $500 for ENERGYSTAR® qualified doors and $500 lifetime limit per individual taxpayer. The bill reauthorizes the tax credit retroactive to January 1, 2015, and extends it through December 31, 2016.
The credit covers 10% of materials costs, up to $200 for windows or $500 for entry doors – up to $500 total
You do not have to replace all the windows/doors in your home to qualify. Eligibility includes purchases made for your “principal residence” in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016: Maximum amount of credit is limited to $500 total. NOTE: The taxpayer is ineligible for this tax credit if this credit has already been claimed by the taxpayer in an amount of $500 in any previous year.
